- A stallion may force claim mares at any time.
- A stallion may force breed mares at any time, although it will only result in a pregnancy in spring.

- If a lead stallion is not active for two weeks, then he is dethroned and is kicked out into the pad. His herd will remain in the herdland with the lead mare as ruler until another stallion comes and claims the land. The inactive king must then wait two weeks before her challenges the new lead for his land.
- A beta stallion may fight his leader, but he must be judged by the Brothers first. Most usually just quit their position and then fight the leader, although this is seen as cowerdice.
- A beta can fight for land while serving under a lead stallion. If he wins though, he becomes lead stallion of the new land.
- Betas cannot claim a free land until they are released by their alpha.
